Much of what we do as therapists and supervisors is intuitive. While this intuition is grounded in our being, it is informed by what we have learned in graduate school and internships. The dual challenge of teaching psychotherapy entails helping the therapist understand and trust their intuition while creating a space for them to develop an internal supervisor that can guide, reflect, and evaluate their ongoing work.
While I draw from a range of different theoretical perspectives, contemporary psychoanalytic thinking informs my approach to supervision and consultation. My goal is to create a safe and dynamic space that facilitates the clinicians' professional development and creative use of the self. My aim is to deepen their clinical understanding and help them integrate this understanding with their personal experience enabling them to be more present in the therapeutic relationship.
What we do in therapy is influenced by “our unconscious organizing principles,” to borrow a concept from Stolorow. These unconscious organizing principles are embedded in our history, in our perceptions of the world, and in the interactions we have with others. The beauty of psychoanalysis is that it creates space for exploring the unknown and the problematic.
This group is limited to 6 individuals. It is case-focused employing an eclectic contemporary psychoanalytic framework. Relevant readings will be used to supplement discussion. The goals of the group are to help therapists deepen their clinical experience, refine their ability to apply theory to practice, increase the effectiveness in using their self in the therapeutic relationship, and explore co-transference dynamics that undergird the therapeutic process. It also provides a place to explore the personal and professional challenges of being a psychotherapist. To find out more information, call 818-243-0839 or email email@example.com
